The excitement of purchasing an RV was quickly turned to disappointment, then anger, then disbelief. There is a reason that RV sales are down 50% in 2023 and its not the economy. We purchased a brand new Thor motorcoach which has been riddled with major systems issues, cosmetic issues and poor workmanship. Our coach has been in service for approximately one year, yes one year straight. The issue is that things break faster than they can get parts and fix issues, the process is 1. submit issue to dealer. 2 dealer has to approve. 3 dealer sends to manufacturer for approval. 4 dealer requests part. 5 parts can take up to one or more months to arrive. Please do not let Thor ruin your dreams.

With the latest V-Ride Chassis and ZF independent front suspension, the Thor Tuscany 40DX drives and handles like a dream, much better than any solid axle front end coach, which includes the Newmar Ventana, and Tiffin Allegro Red and any Phaetons with a solid axle front end. The steering is more accurate and the turning circle much tighter. With air ride suspension, it rides like a cloud without much float. The 40DX also comes with a more powerful 8.9L Cummins diesel with 450 hp and 1250 pounds of torque so going up grades is easy peezy, even when towing you end up passing semis like they are standing still. I find the best cruising speed to bee around 72-73 mph where you still can achieve 10 mpg. Step it up to 80 mph and your mileage will fall to about 8.5 mpg. I just finished a 4,000 mile trip around the United States towing a 3,500 pound toad and averaged about 9 mpg but speeds were 75 mph and above. It will peg the speedometer (85 mph) and then some but your a heavy vehicle and an emergency stop might get a bit hairy. The huge front windshield is fantastic for the driver and passenger. It's like seeing the world in IMAX. The quality of the wood and appointments are first rate and the sofa, theater seats and dinette are super comfortable. Another nice feature is the half bath which is accessible while driving (not for the driver). Having two bathrooms is a real positive. It's without question, the best value in a diesel pusher, especially a coach with the independent front suspension and 60 degree steering cut, plus the advantage of the 450 hp Cummins diesel which also makes this diesel so quiet. It almost can pivot on its rear wheels. And and has a single rear axle which makes it much easier to maneuver especially, backing up.

We win! Officially "worst quality & worst service" from any manufacturer in the entire RV market. Purchased "brand new" 2023 Thor Tuscany MX in October 2022 and have yet to actually make it to a camp ground, yes it's currently been over 230 days at Lazy Days being worked on. With over 300 minor and major issues including; replacing the gen set, 3rd inverter, auquahot broke 4 times, refrigerator quit and was replaced, toilets swapped out, coach was out of alignment, paint and body wants 2 weeks, countertop cracked and replaced, I could keep going.. Thor service has zero communication skills but are excellent at stalling and saying things like "we will make it right" which is code for "we stole your $500k and we are laughing at you" so embarrassed for them, if you have had same type of experience you can share at thorsucks.org Please don't purchase a Thor product.

Let’s just jump into the truth and the elephant in the room. Thor motor coach made the decision during Covid to produce as many coaches as possible irrespective of quality through the COVID pandemic. This has led to a dramatic decline in quality but a huge payout for the executives of Thor. Other owners can chime in here but it would not be unexpected to have over 200 major issues with these coaches. Thor will put you into their “standard service plan” which will include Mark Stanley who has been at Thor for over 20yr and who literally has no humanity left as he is a shell of “we will sue you, you suck” and or whatever other useless attempts at getting them to fix these living hell coaches that they trick people into purchasing, Please, I am begging you, do not give them your money, it will be the last time you see it. There is a large class action lawsuit being prepared.

We have a 2023 (not 2022 as this review is listed for but they did not have a 2023 option) and while the floor plan we got leaves a lot to be desired, the quality control is terrible. I have a list of well over 40 things that have gone wrong on this thing since day one, such as the water tank moving (twice!), AC failing, inverter failing, Firefly acting up, tiles cracking, crown molding falling off, subwoofer not working and much more more. Maybe quality control has gone out the window since COVID? Factory warranty is problematic also because if stuff 'works' again when it gets to the dealer and they cannot cause it to fail, they won't replace anything even if a tech on the road documented it not working. Have to wait until it fails again so it can be demonstrated. The 450HP motor is OK, but honestly the gas mileage in this thing is not the greatest and when towing it's lacking power in the hills. The biggest issue for me with the layout is the silly 66" jack knifer sleeper sofa. That thing is effectively useless for anyone over 5' tall, so even my 12 year old daughter barely fits on it. It should have been a tri-fold sofa, not a Jack Knife.

So before buying this coach we owned an Allegro and a Holiday Rambler. Both diesel pushers. When we decided to become full time RVers, we traded the Allegro for this coach (a) it was slight bigger and it has 3 slides. We have put 21,000 miles on it, and bought new tires. THAT'S IT. It is a great motor home, no mechanical problem, no engine problems and very comfortable for the two of us.

The floor plan is laid out very nice and the polished porcelen tile floor is easily maintained. The mirror cameras are great to see a wide distance on the turns. With annual routine maintenance break downs were non-existant. I like the freightliner chassis and the great support from the team.

Bought new from Golden Gait in Concord, NC. Didn’t make it out of the dealership, water tank fitting wasn’t fully glued and water was pouring out. Dealer glued and I stayed over night. Didn’t make it home, DEF warning came on, slow rolled into Louisville Freightliner, DEF module had to be replaced. First trip, rain starts outside, waterfall follows inside the coach. Kitchen vent not properly sealed. Trip two, no hot water, aqua hot leaked out all coolant, massive puddle under Coach. 6 months after purchasing new, I’m headed back to the dealer with 32 items on the repair list, not counting all the items I fixed myself. If you can’t afford an Entegra or Newall, Thor is nothing more than an entry level diesel pusher big rig. All of the fit and finish is average. Simple items, like bolting the side mirrors versus using wood screws (yes, I fixed it). Half of the drawers stay locked, half open while driving. Lesson I have learned is that the $100K-$200K price from Thor to Entegra is all about the “little things”. I can live with the 450 hp engine versus the 605, I don’t need power sliding storage trays. But, I do need a coach that runs, doesn’t leak and provides basic living (ie: hot water). Today, in preparation for the drive to Charlotte, the toilet stopped flushing. I’ll give it to the dealer, let them do their best, and see if, maybe, we can resolve the list of “bugs”. If not, I’m taking the loss and trading it in for one that the manufacturer put the appropriate quality into the build to match the price and expectation. Our Thor Tuscany 45JA has been a big disappointment. Even at the lower price point, I would expect basic livability. 6 months into a new coach, I shouldn’t have to expect a 2-3 week service.
